Poem: Constant Fear

Every night I look at you
with a constant fear;
Confronted by the realization that in the morning,
like the dew, you will disappear.
The thought of being alone
is more than my brittle heart can take.
Like a Ming vase knocked from its pedestal
it is destined to break.
What will I do without my fiancé,
where will I go without you?
Every decision I have made in the past year
has been for two.
How can I face the cruel night
without you by my side.
Face the sunlight and greet the future
without my expectant bride.
Don’t leave me woman,
try to stay with me an extra day.
Oh God, heavenly father,
please don’t take my lifeline away.
Darling, I don't want to let you go;
please look at me, and fight.
Look beyond our constant fear
and stay another night.
