Poem: Married to the Gemini
She was married to the Gemini,
living in constant fear of losing her life.
If she had known that he was so mentally unstable
she would have never agreed to be his wife.
He only wanted her to look at him and no other man
when he was around.
When his friends or other men approached her,
her eyes would face the ground.
At first she thought that it was his fits of jealousy
that evoked him to ignite.
But no matter how hard she tried to please him
they would constantly fight.
The same hand that hit her was also used to caress;
To paint a picture of security
before revealing shades of madness.
The initial life changing push
caused a deep fatal gash across her forehead.
That same dark night
she struggled to deny his sexual advances,
but he raped her upon their bed.
Plush pillows and heavy hands
frantically smothered her vacant screams,
Her silk nightgown and cotton panties
he ripped at the seams.
She was slapped, bitten and bruised
during her period,
on satin stained sheets she profusely bled.
If the paramedics hadn’t arrived within the hour,
she would have been pronounced dead.

but by God’s grace she is tethered no more.
Her battered ship has survived his rough waters
and sailed to safer shores.
