If this were a sad song
these words would be the refrain:
Another heartfelt relationship
flushed down the drain.
Am I cursed to repeat this task
time and time again?
Condemned to watch a union, drive anew,
only to crash around the bend.
Another dream filled to capacity
with less support than a puff of steam;
Dispersing apart in the winds of doubt
with nothing but poor chemistry to blame.
The hefty price for loving so deeply
is that it hurts so badly.
When our peace of mind depends upon sacrificing
the trust and intimacy we once held so dearly.
Temporal happiness bartered and weighted
against future consecrated suffering.
“Pondering, contemplating, hurting, regretting,
eventually crying.”
Feelings swirling around and around
in the midst of reconciliation’s typhoon.
The mind convincing the heart
that it is better for “one” to be alone.
Feel the strain, see the pain;
once again hear the refrain:
Another heartfelt relationship
flushed down the drain.
