Poem: No Real Money (Election 2007) - Nassau, Bahamas

He has no real money for his precious “Honey.”
He has no rich butter for his “island bread.”
All he has are sweet words
and lavish promises to sway her pretty head.
She thinks he is sincere
while he’s cooking deals and signing IOUs
for everything under the sky.
When its time to honor most bills
and numerous pledges
he smothers them with a lie.
He has repeatedly prophesied
billions upon billions of wealth
in their immediate future.
She hears about riches
but she can’t see any collaborating photo
or moving picture.
He is suddenly committing to numerous projects
when he sees her turning away.
He is using the gospel, racism, bribery,
intimidation, discrimination, media bombardment
and sensationalism to entice her to sway.
He was up to his old tricks and promiscuous ways
when she dumped him about fifteen years before.
He doesn’t even acknowledge his current faults
which only hurts her heart more.
She is tired of the local
and international lashes of scandal
and the crime related tears of shame she has shed.
She thought he had changed his selfish cliquish ways
but he can’t support the idols words that were said.
She wants to remain with him out of loyalty
and because he was her first true lover.
She also wants to leave him
because he did not deliver upon his assurances
like his younger brother.
Last time she thought she was teaching him a lesson,
this time she has one foot out the door.
He has no real money for his precious “Honey.”
and part of her doesn’t trust him anymore.
