Poem: I can't move on - Nassau, Bahamas

and turn off the lights.
Block every sound out of my mind,
close my eyes tight.
Recede to the depths of my thoughts,
deeper than I’ve ever gone.
Then I see your face,
and realize that I can’t move on.
Countless times this man has tried
to permanently forget how your radiant smile
fostered endearing light
to his heart after every sunset.
In the dark I shiver,
because the lonely night is so cold.
Every pore in my body longing
for a living blanket to hold.
Haunted by the memories we share,
more delighted than afraid.
Each tender embrace being a burgundy rose
whose petals never fade.
Although I have so much to live for,
and so many things to do.
I would trade them all for the chance
to be loved solely by you.
I awake, eyes grudgingly greeting the dawn;
Look at the closest mirror,
see your face,
and realize that I can’t move on.
