Poem: Valentines Day - Nassau, Bahamas - Written in 1989

One day each year romance is on the horizon
and love is in full bloom.
A day when eyes sparkle with emotions,
expressing feelings that seem to brighten a dreary room.
There are no paper hearts that can portray the admiration
that beats so strongly inside.
There are no amounts of candy that can take the place
of the sweetness that resides.
The roses, how they wilt,
and how easily their perfume is lost.
Yet, the words 'I love you',
makes one purchase gifts no matter what the cost.
A love poem, how intricate and delicate is each word;
only to be forgotten when the next lover comes.
A fancy dinner for two is so special,
but the taste is as fleeting
as the essence of a drop of rum.
At the end of the day when love is at its peak,
and the feelings can't seem to be any stronger.
There is a hug, a kiss, utter bliss,
and throughout the remainder of the night,
the two lovers dream of each other.
