Poem: No Room

It saddens me to say this
after all that we’ve been through.
But in my heart and in my home
there is no room for two.
I can’t be seeing her on weekends
and sleeping with you every other night.
Although I love making you moan
I hate fighting with my conscience
when I hold her tight.
I’ll never take you to church on Sunday;
I refuse to spend the holidays by your side.
I will never give you my house key
and I don’t dream about you being my bride.
I’m sorry that I hurt you,
I regret allowing you to believe
that our relationship had more in store.
But you deserve a man who is devoted solely to you;
someone who will stay tied to your shore.
I deserve the rapid fiery slaps in the face;
I deserve the vicious profane words that you said.
I treated you like an uptown whore
and I’m not worthy of the tears you shed.
I can only tell one person that I love them,
and unfortunately that person is not you;
Because in my heart and in my home
there is no room for two.
