Poem: Waiting - Nassau, Bahamas
for some acknowledgment from him that you exist.
Swallowing your pride, hoping against all odds,
whilst allowing your misery to persist.
Waiting for weeks,
weeks that eventually become months of neglect.
Adding fuel to a fire,
fostering an explosive emotional affect.
Constantly waiting and wondering,
virtually wallowing in limbo.
Too fearful, too afraid,
too haplessly in love to let him go.
Having heartfelt conversations
with his answering machine.
Pouring your heart into long letters
that are never seen.
Jumping every time the phone rings,
hoping that it is him
Having that look of expectation fade away
to reveal a future that can only be described as dim.
Staring out the window as if searching
for a gorilla in the mist.
Painstakingly waiting
for some acknowledgment from him
that you exist.
