Poem: A reflection of you

Mom and Dad, I’m deeply honored
to be a reflection of you.
Your character, your examples are my moral glue.
Lord knows what a menace to society I would be
if I didn’t have you to look up to, to guide me.
Your voices of wisdom in my head will never die.
They encourage me; challenge me,
when I lack the desire or conviction to try.
My accomplishments and my manners
are the harvests from your relentless toil
in parenting’s vineyard.
You padded my deck with markers
in order to increase my chances
of choosing the trump card.
Dad you are my friend, my combatant,
who always gave me your time.
Because of your dedication,

self-indulgence is my only crime.
Mom you fed me with love from the nest

and forced me to fly.
Because of your inspiration and patience;
no goal or destination is ever too high.
Together, your sacrifice, trust,

commitment and honesty
are the oils on the canvas

that breathe life into my scheme.
The images you painted were not always rosy pictures
but life is not a perfect frame.
This mirror image,

this reflection wishes to say thank you
for all of the things you have done,
and continue to do.
Mom and Dad, I am truly honored and blessed
to be a reflection of you.
