Poem: We weren’t meant to be
I spoke to a dear friend I have known for almost a decade and reflected on why our romantic relationship died years ago. She still manages to place a smile on my face with just a laugh and few words. This poem summarises our story.
I kissed you and I knew
that we weren’t meant to be,
It will forever be my most tragic memory.
For years I pursued the dream of you and I
as one.
Praying that one day you and I
would walk hand in hand
beneath the sun.
You were my ethereal destiny;
I compared all other virtuous women to you.
My once broken heart was repaired
in expectation of you
my emotional glue.
After many months of courting I finally had a glimpse
that you would be mine
I had pretty dreams of us bound together
before witnesses
in the eyes of the “Divine.”
But in an instant the object of my affection
for half of a decade
was no longer delightful to hold.
Realities taste was bitter
and your luscious lips made me feel
disgustingly cold.
It sickens me to know that my efforts
and our relationship
are history.
I kissed you and I knew
that we weren’t meant to be.
