My Godson and me

Today I got to play for almost two hours with my Godson Dylan. He smiled, laughed and dribbled on me. He is a bundle of pure joy.
I performed at Me Ting Place yesterday evening. I dedicated a poem to Simone (Dylan's) Mom. It was a poem I wrote for her birthday about 13 years ago. It is entitled Simone :-)

I have included it below:

Simone

Simone; when I've forgotten all of the rest,
Trying desperately to cling onto memories true,
(to you) the best.
When I've experienced it all,
and there is nothing more,
Within the many stars that twinkle,
your sparkling eyes I will adore.
When I'm at the end of the trail,
and my faculties are few.
I will dwell on these special times,
be comforted by your smile once more,
and remember you.
When the roses rooted in friendship
and respect eventually fade,
And life's light grows dim,
leaving me shivering in death's evil shade.
This poem I write proves that even then,
I will never be alone.
Until my final sigh;
it will always be Simone.

Death of a Cultural Vanguard

A Bahamian cultural matriarch passed away last week and a memorial website was established in her honor. Her name is Mrs. Kayla Lockhart-Edwards. Her memorial website is at

http://kayla-lockhartedwards.memory-of.com/

I posted a poem originally drafted for Grandma Cambridge who is still living. I believe that it is a poem that reflects the beauty in all magnificent women. I have included it below:

Our Swan
(Dedicated to the memory of Kayla Edwards-Lockhart)

I remember Kayla Edwards-Lockhart, our swan, the epitome of grace,
A queen among Bahamian women
who defied the stereotypes of time, beauty and race.
This constant river of happiness and joy overflowed with affection.
Her attentive ears were a well of contemplation;
her candy words were a compass of direction.
She was the finest wine, intoxicating to all
who experienced her wit and charm;
A wonderful woman who young men (decades younger)
were delighted to escort by the arm.
Her highness' stamina was breathtaking;
her spectacular performances pleased the spirit and the mind.
Her majesty's sincerity was overwhelming;
she was truly "one of a kind."
Even in spirit she is an "ebony cornerstone" to her family,
her intimate touch is perceived in every crystal eye I see.
It's amazing that someone so hardworking
always had time to share her wisdom
with her fellow countryman, with me.
This polite gem, this precious treasure,
always brought a smile to my face.
I will remember always, our swan, Kayla Edwards-Lockhart,
the epitome of grace.

Godson of 4 months comes to visit

My roomie from college (Simone) and her son (Dylan) are visiting me and my family for 5 days. Her husband (Danny) will be joining them on Thursday. I am very excited to have my godson Dylan with me. It has been a long time since I have been around a baby at my own home for more than a few hours. It was raining when I picked up mother and son from the airport but it was worth it to see his smile. I know that I am going to have fun entertaining my godson for a long while and that the memories of his stay will remain with me always.

X-men 3 was the BOMB!

I got a chance to watch X-men today. The group consisted of Eric, Duval, Patrice, Zandria, their girlfriend and myself. Dewitt and his wife Marcia also attended. Anyway about the movie:

It started off well with the introduction of Jean Grey, went slow and then was a roller coaster ride of action and special effects. Magneto was magnificent as the arch villain supreme. Jean Grey/Phoenix was amazing and was as powerful as her comic origins. Halle Berry finally had a major role in the film and her character Storm demonstrated almost all of her weather powers. Shadow Cat and Ice man were impressive. I did miss Nightcrawler. My favorite character Mystique was deadly as ever. Wolverine was well played as usual. It was definitely the best one as far as action. I think the story in the first two were better but a lot of my opinion is based upon seeing earlier sequels of the film. I will definitely purchase the collection when the film goes to DVD.

It was Patrices's B-day. Duval really enjoyed discussing comic book lore with ladies who actually knew the characters and their powers. It was a great time.

Mc Hammer has a new album coming out in 2006

Wow! Its great to see MC Hammer back in action. I was worried after the Full Blast album never materialised. His new music video "Look" is very catchy and the singers on the "Get 2 no you" love track are amazing. I look fwd to great things from the MC in 2006. Looking at his blog made me create my own blog. Check it out:
