Christian Rap Group performs at NPCC - Nassau, Bahamas

It was a delightful change in our worship service at New Providence Community Church to be introduced to Da Paltinum Soldiers. A christian rap group developed from the Youth Against Violence program in Nassau, Bahamas. Young people channeling their talents into a postive conduit to attract other misguided youth.

Poem: She believes - Nassau, Bahamas

She sees forever, you see today.
To you, she is a fish in the sea,
the catch of the day.
She’s thinking of marriage,
she believes that you are the one.
You believe that she’s a nice girl who is a lot of fun.
She sees a lifetime commitment,
someone to comfort her when she’s old.
You see a woman, one of many
that you have had the opportunity to hold.
She pours out her heart to you in letters
and burns the telephone line.
You see others, but you manage to keep her hooked
with your candy coated words, guilty gifts
and “ miss you signs”.
She caresses in affection,
each stroke conveys her love for ‘only’ you.
You touch to conquer, you kiss to subdue.
She sheds her undergarments with passion,
utter devotion she strives to profess.
You initiate petting to arouse
and foreplay to undress.
She proclaims you to be her boyfriend
based upon your actions;
But your chauvinistic pride merely sees
“the temporary” physical and emotional attraction.
She’s thinking of marriage,
she believes that you are the one,
And you will tell her what she wants to hear
as long as you can hit and run.

This was my first time ever doing a dj/karaoke gig at the Radisson Cable Beach Resort. I was filling in for an associate and was only supposed to perform between 10 to 12 PM but I enjoyed the energy of the tourists/wedding party so much that I stayed until 1:30 AM.

Poem: To Stray - Nassau, Bahamas

Why do you hurt her this way?
Why does your fist have to stray?
Why is she battered and bruised?
Why is she so confused?
She loves you, she needs you,
She has stuck by your side
after all the adversities
that you’ve both been through.
She never cheated with another lover!
She reveres you in her heart
more than her mother.
You say that you love her,
you say that you care.
You buy her gifts,
you escort her everywhere.
Why does she sometimes wake up
brown, black and blue?
Why is she stripped
like an empty box of tissue?
Why is she forced upon
after your advances were refused?
Why are you the only one who has a valid excuse?
Why does your fist have to stray?
Why do you hurt the “one” you love this way?

Poem: Living in the middle of it - Bahamas - Written in 1989

Living on an island in the Caribbean; nowhere to run.
Our main industry depending on the sand, sea, and sun.
We tell the rest of the world that it is better over here.
We try to 'milk' the tourist for every dime,
but our local taxes we fail to declare.
Our roads are overcrowded with vehicles,
and are constantly needing repair.
The demand for electricity
is more than the local electrical company can bare.
Single parent families are springing up every where
like weeds.
We would rather import the fruit, than plant the seeds.
The need for adequately funded housing rises year after year,
And when someone is wearing rags,
we don't even shed a tear.
The apathy of a nation,
too busy to heal its people's pain.
Supporting a government,
that seems to wash its public funds down the 'drain'.
A wave of crime that never crashes
against the shore of peace and fizzles away.
Where you often don't get the quality of service
for the amount of money you pay.
Young women who think that the greatest attribute in life
is for them to look cute.
Only in a nation too busy shifting the blame
from its elders to its youth.
Where young entrepreneurs are frequently denied the chance
to form a successful business of their own.
No electricity, no water, no roads, no loans,
can you blame the youth for not wanting to stay home.
A flood of illegal immigrants enter the country,
more than the local economy can bear.
What is the need for planting imported trees,
when there is litter everywhere.
A government who has the "Midas touch" in reverse,
cultivating a xenophobic nation filled with corruption and lies.
Too afraid to lose its 'God-like' powers
if some of its public corporations are privatized.
Who builds a huge, expensive, air-conditioned mall (Town Center)
next to a poor community.
Allowing cruise ships, yachts, and hotels
to blatantly pollute the sea.
When it is who I know, and not what I can do,
which is the reason why I can get a job today.
As the church (one on every corner) sits in the dark,
as if the 'blues' will fade away if they only pray.
A home, a country, losing it's morality and culture bit by bit.
I'm a young person trying to survive through the confusion,
because I'm living in the middle of it.

Music: Jennifer Hudson - And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going

The best African American movie since "Waiting to exhale". Dream Girls was entertaining and Jennifer Hudson was phenomenal. Her performance brought me to tears. Great cast and excellent vocals especially from Jennifer Hudson. Support this movie!
